FreeHAL

Hi there,

I would encourage anyone with an interest in increasing their credit fairly rapidly to take a look at this project ... if you have not done so already.

The stated objective of this project is the following - 'FreeHAL@home is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to parse and convert big open source semantic nets for use in FreeHAL' .

What I find interesting with this project is that it is not at all like any of the traditional BOINC app's. This app uses very little processing power and hardly impacts any other projects that runs with it concurrently. This is because this project primarly requires memory to run and little or no processing power, so if you have some spare memory on your machines (1gb would be good) this could be an option for you.

You can run up to 25 FreeHAL work units in addition to any current BOINC projects that you are running without any impact, as long as you have the required memory. The number of FreeHAL work units which can run at the same time is determined by a project preferences setting which can be tweaked according to your available memory and also if you use your machine for normal day to day use.

I am currently running 20 concurrent Freehal tasks which are taking about 1h50 to complete and getting just over 3000 per day, per machine.

Cheers,
Neil.
