Lets decide our rules for posting messages

Postby S.A. BOINC on Thu May 29, 2008 3:20 am

I got a message recently asking what message content is suitable for posting on this website. For example, would it be ok to use mild bad language in a funny joke message?......Its a good question and this is what i think!. I would like your thoughts on the topic!

What is suitable and what is not......

We, all of us, have to make the rules here. I personally think that people from age 10 to age 80 run BOINC projects on their PC. So the way i see it, we should make the rules so that anybody can read the messages without being badly offended, no matter what age, sex, color, class, religion, creed, whatever.

I think the best set of rules are the rules used on the project message boards like SETI@home, Einstein, CPDN, WCG, etc. So lets read what the rules are on SETI@home

I quote; This is what is allowed on SETI@home
Rules for posting messages:
Posts must be 'kid friendly': they may not contain content that is obscene, hate-related, sexually explicit or suggestive.
No commercial advertisements.
No links to web sites involving sexual content, gambling, or intolerance of others.
No messages intended to annoy or antagonize other people, or to hijack a thread.
No messages that are deliberately hostile or insulting.
No abusive comments involving race, religion, nationality, gender, class or sexuality.
Do not post pictures of graphic violence or links to images or videos containing graphic violence.
Do not posts comments related to specific moderator actions. The moderators may be contacted at (seti email address)
Your posts may be deleted if it contains material from another post which has been deleted. You should avoid including material from a post you expect will be deleted.
Team recruiting is only allowed in the Team Recruitment Forum
Additional information on moderation policy can be found here.

If its not allowed on any of the BOINC projects, then i see no reason why our rules here would need to be different.

The way i see it, if you find a dirty joke and you want to post the joke, you must edit out anything that is not suitable for a 10 year old kid going to school.

Please do post your thoughts on the topic!

John.

You said it as a joke, but you could have made a very good point there about team recruitment. We could develop a section dedicated to idea's about where and how to recruit new members for this team and this forum!

If you have a good idea, like BOINC projects and volunteer computing, then you have to tell other people about it or they will never know!

These rules sound good. I can't find our forum rules. I don't think we've created a section for rules yet. If there are no objections, can we use these as our forum rules?

They sound good to me too. I would say this thread constitutes the official forum rules.
