World Community Grid Challenges

Postby Warped on Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:11 pm

S.A. BOINC has passed the baton of team captaincy for Team South Africa in WCG to me.

I entered us into a one-day challenge, namely "The Challenge of St. Valentine". See Here

Although we finished a gratifying 16th, they messed up the calulation. This was supposed to have been based on an "increase in run time" expressed as a percentage. This did not happen and the outcome order was merely on the basis of total run time for the day. Nevertheless, well done to all who participated, knowingly or not!

In addition, I also took the opportunity to enter us into three other challenges:
1. A challenge based on total run time for the month of February. We staterd at a diisadvantage, half the month having already run, but we are already up to 35th place.
2. Another one base on run time (the Mars Race 09), which will run for the month of March.
3. One based on the points scored, which will also run for the month of March.

There are numerous challenges running all the time, so if you see an upcoming challenge that takes your fancy, please let me know.

Now we're up to 26th! Way to go. Let's see if we can get into the top 20 before the end of the month. :D

Stuck at 24th

Postby Warped on Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:25 am

We've been stuck on 24th for a couple of days. The other teams around us seem to be producing at about the same rate. This will make getting into the top 20 quite difficult.

For the challenges which run for the month of March, we'll start on time, so making our way up the ranking will be improbable. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see the difference between the various types of challenges.

We're currently in a very solid 6th place in the cancer -research=mesothelioma challenge. Good going!

The challenge ends on 16 January 2010.

I'm pleased to note that we've just moved up to 5th place. Well done. :)
