QuantumFIRE alpha

Postby Neil Store » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:03 pm

Hi,

News on another new project - QuantumFIRE alpha is a BOINC project for scientific research in Quantum Foundations, Solid State Physics and Quantum Chemistry. http://cah.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/

Message Boards are up and running. There is a lively conversation on credits going on already over there, but at least the Admin seems responsive .. which can't always be said of all projects.

Cheers,
Neil.

Yes, this is closely related to QMC. I've tried a few work units, but am getting to a point where it's difficult to decide where to allocate my limited resources.

Hi Warped,

You absolutely correct that the two projects a very closely related, in fact I believe that they share the same lead developer for their Quantum Monte Carlo method work. QMC@Home will however continue to focus on Chemistry based calculations, while QuantumFire will focus on Physics based calculations ... but I am sure you knew all that stuff already.

Like you, I find that I am already struggling to allocate my very limited resources in some sort of a meaningful way. I try to alternate my resources between old favourites and also some of the new projects (some will hopefully become old favourites), but contribute until I reach a significant milestone if possible. But I know that everyone is not always that keen to switch resources away from their favourite project ... which is also fine.

Cheers,
Neil.

Yes, indeed, Neil.

When one considers that what seem to be single projects like WCG and PrimeGrid themselves each consist of multiple projects, the choice becomes quite daunting. In addition, the more deserving causes also do not always grant the best credits!

Oh well, hopefully the projects remain around for a while and contribute meaningfully to the advance of Science.
